League of Legends Lecture is an intermediate-level video game course from former LCS coach, NicoThePico. It will help you understand 3 important aspects of the game that will increase your micro/macro knowledge & boost your rank.
Before it became the popular esports title with millions of players and billions in revenue, League of Legends was just a design document and a small team. Its launch in 2009 was a long journey punctuated by terror and wild leaps of faith.
- Learn the Game Fundamentally
League of Legends is a complex game that requires advanced micro/macro skills, teamwork, and strategic thinking. In this course, you’ll learn about the most important aspects of the game and how to improve your gameplay.
You’ll also learn about the role of items and how to optimize them. For example, determining which basic abilities gain significant damage or utility with increased leveling and which ones are “1-point wonders” (abilities that don’t gain any meaningful base damage or reduce cooldown as they are maxed out) is an important skill to master.
Finally, you’ll learn about zoning, which is a crucial aspect of a successful team. Watch this video from Gbay99, a high-elo player who has a lot to say on the subject. It’s a great primer to getting your mind right!
- Learn the Basics of PvP
League of Legends is the most popular video game and eSport since its launch in 2012. It’s also one of the hardest games to master. Learn how to improve your game mechanics and micro/macro with former LCS coach, NicoThePico.
Practice PvP by queueing into battlegrounds and learning how to play each champion in a variety of game modes. Aim for players’ shoulder and side of the torso when fighting, this technique is called strafing and it lowers knock back and allows you to get combos. Also use macros, they save time by automatically performing an action without needing to target an enemy. Understand how to maximize item power and gold efficiency by acquiring items that complement each other. For example, health from one item can benefit from magic resist/armor from another.
- Learn the Basics of Teamwork
League of Legends is a team-based video game where ten players battle each other on the map called Summoner’s Rift. Each player controls a character known as a champion. These champions have unique abilities and powers that shape their playstyle. It is important to learn how to build and play with a variety of champions in order to maximize the power of your team.
This course helps participants assess their own approach to teamwork and gain personalized insights on how to work more effectively with others. Participants learn and master critical behaviours and interpersonal skills that are essential to teamwork, including ways to improve communication and develop productive conflict. By the end of this course, participants will be able to bring these new, more productive behaviors back into their work and personal lives.
- Learn the Basics of Leadership
Leaders need to be able to articulate their vision, clearly communicate with others and deliver constructive feedback. They also need to be able to listen attentively and ask thoughtful questions that help them understand the issue at hand before problem-solving to craft an intentional response. This course is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of leadership and how they can apply them to their League of Legends experience.
Students will use a discrete linear optimization system to answer an original research question within League of Legends, and will also analyze data from the competitive scene to inform their own play styles.
- Learn the Basics of Communication
It’s no secret that good communication is key to success in League of Legends. If you and your teammates are on the same page, team fighting, picking up kills, and securing objectives can all be done with relative ease. Unfortunately, the game often gets a bad rap for its toxicity and miscommunication, but there are ways to improve your communication. For example, always try to be concise when relaying information and never rely on “hunches” when making decisions.
Lastly, don’t be afraid to ask questions! Oftentimes, other players are happy to help newcomers learn the game. Just make sure to inform them that you’re new when asking for help!롤대리
