Overdose
Vyvanse overdose can lead to severe symptoms such as restlessness, overactive or overresponsive bodily reflexes, rapid breathing and confusion. It can also cause heart arrhythmias and seizures. In case of overdose, a person must be taken to the emergency department as soon as possible. They will receive treatment for the life-threatening effects of an overdose including fluids to prevent dehydration and benzodiazepines for sedation. Activated charcoal can be administered to bind with the drug and remove it from the body.
Vyvance is a stimulant that increases the activity of the neurotransmitters dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain. This can lead to serious mental health problems including psychosis and mania in children and adults. Symptoms of psychosis include hallucinations and believing things that are not real.
Stimulants have a high risk of drug misuse and are known to be addictive. They can be abused in different ways such as crushed and snorted to produce a feeling of euphoria.
Precautions
Vyvanse may cause a rare but serious side effect called serotonin syndrome. Get emergency medical care right away if you have symptoms such as agitation, hallucinations, fever, sweating, shivering, fast heart rate, muscle stiffness, twitching, loss of coordination, or nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
Taking Vyvanse can increase your risk of having a heart attack or stroke, especially if you have certain heart problems or take other medications that affect your blood pressure, such as diuretics (water pills). Your doctor will check your heart health before starting this medication.
Vyvanse should not be used during pregnancy. It can harm a developing baby. This drug passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding.
